What information is legal to obtain and what isn't?
Due to changes in privacy laws in the last 10 years, the obtaining of certain
information can get you in hot water with the justice system.
For instance, it is now necessary to obtain a court judgment before bank account records
can be legally obtained and the info cannot be obtained through pretext.
Also as of recently, cell phone records can no longer be obtained on another individual legally!
It used to be legal to run a credit report on just about anyone......not anymore! You must have
an individual's authorization to run a credit report for employment or tenant screening.
Also, if you have someone run a search that's illegal, you and the company that ran it can now be
charged with a federal crime!
Bottomline................Know what is legal and not before attempting to obtain any records.
